InsaneJournal's hosting company screwed up and canceled the databases. Squeaky has a copy of them from a month ago. Argh, why wasn't I backing up my entries frequently?!?

Dayum. That sounds like a firin' offense (as in, find a new hosting company and get a refund from the old one). I recall a similar incident (but only losing a couple days of data) a few weeks ago -- I don't recall which LJ-like site it was though (that wasn't IJ as well, was it?).
Especially troubling, since even though I'm still maintainning my LJ for now, I've switched to giving people my IJ URL when I tell them I have a blog (and have been considering posting links to IJ that look like cut-tags in my LJ instead of full copies of the entries).
I do have eight and a half copies of my entries for the past month (a side effect of mirroring), but I'll miss the comments that had been left. And the ones that I had left on others' journals there. This is going to screw up references in quotes in my QotD file too. Eit.
Thanks for posting this info -- this was the first entry that looked relevant in the Google results for "insanejournal problems", and I'd been wondering what eitage could be taking this long to fix. Ouch.

Hey there! No, this is the only occurrence of this sort of thing InsaneJournal has had. IJ is in the process of finding a new hosting company; they are also in the process of having a fundraising drive, in case you are so inclined to help out. :-P
I still have 7 years' worth of archives on LiveJournal because my account is paid through September there. But I haven't posted any more there since January of this year, when I switched to InsaneJournal.
Squeaky (Jason--admin. of IJ) keeps us updated on Twitter when he can't do so on IJ. It sure helped us all stay calm throughout this ordeal! Here is the URL:
